HONG KONG
Hong Kong/EACA 2018
In 2018 Artmia Foundation opened a studio-like space in Aberdeen, Hong Kong as a venue for the EACA Artist-in-residence which is one very essential segment of EACA support program organised by the foundation.
Once-factory, 190 sqm space has been refurbished to accommodate artists who wish to stay and work at a less crowded place in one of the most important art destinations in Asia. 3.5m height white walls and urethane coated grey floor provide a favourable working environment for the artists. Also, the wide array of windows facing east and south allow the artists to take advantage of abundant sunlight. Furthermore, the studio is located on the side of Wong Chuk Hang Road, a major thoroughfare run through the Southern District of Hong Kong Island. It is a location easy to get to both natural and beautiful spots like Aberdeen Country Park and Stanley Mountain as well as highly civilised and modernised districts such as Wan Chai and Central.
Hong Kong is a megapolis which is embracing and adopting various cultural aspects from Europe as well as Asia as ever, and its geopolitical significance keeps growing up. Even though the studio is 2,000km away from the headquarter of the foundation in Beijing, Hong Kong is undoubtedly the most appropriate locus of certain experience for the artists who are keen to observe dynamic transitions and complexity of contemporary society.
We hope the artists enjoy everything in the studio and return their home with exceptional memories from Hong Kong.
